Hazel M. Steward

June 1, 1915 ~ August 27, 2016 (age 101) 101 Years Old

Hazel M. Steward, of Greensburg, formerly of Slickville, was born June 1, 1915, to the late Martha and Roxy Jones, in Knoxville, Tenn. Hazel was the youngest of eight children. She departed this life Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016. She now joins all of her late siblings in heaven, John Jones, James Jones, Lucille Grant, Inez Howell, Georgeanna Williams, Robert Jones and Clyde Jones. At a very early age, Hazel moved to Slickville. Hazel received all of her education in Slickville. In April 1934, Hazel met and married Orrie Steward. To this union one daughter was born. Hazel received Christ at an early age and was baptized at Parkview Baptist Church, in Slickville. She later joined The Church of God In Christ, and remained in this faith until she expired. She was a mother of the church in Derry. Hazel was a humble, unique, quiet person who loved the Lord, her church and her pastor. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Hazel will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Hazel leaves to mourn her daughter, Martha Mae Williams, of Queens, N.Y. Hazel was the proud grandmother of three grandchildren, Kevin Orrie Williams and his wife, Gena Williams, of Stroudsburg, Nathaniel Keith Williams, of Queens, N.Y., and Keisha Renee Williams-Cameron and her husband, Charlie Cameron, of Queens, N.Y. She also leaves to cherish her five great-grandchildren, Kevin, Kyler and Kendall Williams, of Stroudsburg, and Ryonna and Ryan Burrell, of Queens, N.Y.; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.
