Donald Roy Shirey

Donald Roy Shirey, 65, of Washington Twp., passed away Monday January 5, 2015. He was born January 15, 1949 in Clearfield, Pa., son of Frank W. and Pauline L. (Shimmel) Shirey. In addition to his parents, Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Emma (Dunmire) Shirey; Son Donald J. “DJ” Shirey and his wife Linda of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Rebecca Meyer and her husband Richard of Apollo; and son Lucas Shirey and his wife Lauren of Murrysville; grandchildren Leta and Korbin; his parents Frank W. and Pauline (Shimmel) Shirey of Champion, Pa.; a brother, Ray Shirey and his wife Billie of New Stanton; sister Karen Sarge and her husband Bill of North Huntingdon; brother Larry Shirey and his wife Mary Kay of North Huntingdon; and sister Ellen Kohlman and her husband Jack of White, Pa.; mother and father-in-law James and Emma Maxine Dunmire of Washington Twp.; and many nieces and nephews. After graduating with a degree in Sociology/Psychology, from Geneva College, Donald worked for 28 years as a heavy machinery mechanic at Cleveland Brothers; he retired in 2014. He served in the Peace Corps and loved working with people, especially from different cultures. He was a gentle man, who joyed in serving his Lord and family, and acted as a good neighbor or "Mr. Fix-it" to his community. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 5-7PM Wednesday and 10 am -12 Noon Thursday. Services begin on Thursday at 12 Noon at Bash-Nied Funeral Home (152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381) with Pastor Clarke Lauffer and Assistant Pastor George Perinis of Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland in Greensburg.
