Wilbur William "Bud" Hawkey, Sr.

Wilbur William "Bud" Hawkey Sr., 78, of New Alexandria, passed away surrounded by his family Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Bud is survived by his children, Brenda Dahl, of Champion, Dyana Vance (James), of Rockwood, and Randy Hawkey (Carol), of New Alexandria; his stepdaughters, Darla Magill (Thomas), of Penn, and Debbie Kemerer (Jeffrey), of Manor; his brother-in-law, Lynn Marks, of Amarillo, Texas; a niece; two nephews; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlotte Jean Hawkey; son, Wilbur William Hawkey Jr.; grandson, Justin Dahl; and a sister, Lillian "Sis" Marks. Bud was born April 3, 1940, in Jeannette, son of the late Wilbur and Lillian Hawkey. He worked as a construction laborer, truck driver and as superintendent at Bushy Run Battlefield until he became a full-time farmer in 1976. Bud was truly passionate about farming and raised hogs, beef cattle, rabbits, chicken, goats, sheep, reindeer, draft horses, ducks, guineas and even an albino skunk. Bud truly enjoyed hunting Pennsylvania whitetail deer and processing specialty meats. Bud will be remembered by his family as a hard-working, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who had an unforgettable personality and a great sense of humor.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. H. Clifton Foster of Congruity Presbyterian Church presiding. Interment services will follow at Westmoreland County Memorial Park in Greensburg.
