Mary (Holleran) Purnell

Mary (Holleran) Purnell, 66, of Salem Township, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017, with her loving family at her side. She was born May 7, 1951, in Greensburg, daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Benson) Holleran. Mary is survived by her loving family, Betsy Ahearn (Joe), of New Alexandria, Debbie Szumetz (Lou), of Monroeville, Tim Holleran (Mary Ann), of Avonmore, Jim Holleran (Kris), of Export, John Holleran (Donna), of New Alexandria, Paul Holleran (Lisa); and nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. After working for many years at the former Monsour Hospital in Jeannette, Mary began a new career working in home health care, employed by the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Greater Pittsburgh. She had a lifelong love for horses, especially Buttercup, which led her into barrel-racing competition, winning many awards. She also had a great affection for German Shepherds. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, (724) 468-8381. Respecting Mary's family's wishes, funeral services and cemetery committal services will be held privately.
