James Davis Obituary

James H. "Jim" Davis, 84 and 3/4, passed away peacefully at his home in Delmont Wednesday, June 13, 2018 with his loving family at his side. He was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Pittsburgh, son of the late George and Freda (Wilson) Davis. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a son, Douglas Davis; infant daughter, Jodi Ann; and a brother, George "Joe" Davis. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Charlene (Avery) Davis; and two sons, Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Maria, of Bell Township, and Kevin Davis (Ruth Jentgens), of Delmont; grandchildren, Ian Matthew and Hannah Maria; sister-in-law, Darla (Larry) Manski, of New Wilmington; and nieces and nephews. After graduating from West Allegheny High School in 1951 Jim furthered his education at Penn State University, graduating in 1955 with a bachelor's in political science. He retired after 35 years with Texaco Inc. as a lubricating engineer in marketing. Jim was a member of Delmont Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and trustee. Jim served on Delmont Borough Council and as mayor. He was a longtime faithful and dedicated member of Delmont Lions, serving as King Lion and club secretary for many years, and received many awards, including International Presidential Certificate of Appreciation, Melvin Jones Fellow, 1996 Lion of the Year and Lions Pennsylvania Fellow. His favorite Lions project was overseeing and participating in the annual Apple Hill Playhouse social. In 2016, Jim was honored with "Jim Davis Day" in Delmont. Jim was also named Citizen of the Year for Delmont by the Murrysville Star. Jim was very active with the Delmont Salvation Army and received many awards for his participation. He was also a member of Friday Fireballs Bowling League and also enjoyed golfing.
A necrology service by the Delmont Lion's Club will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a memorial service celebrating Jim's life at 11 a.m. at Delmont Presbyterian Church with Pastor Caroline A. Vickery presiding. Interment will be attended privately for the family at Eastview Union Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, Delmont, 724-468-8381.
