Helen Mae (Moonis) Bortz, 87, of Delmont, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at UPMC East in Monroeville, with family and friends present. She was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Delmont, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mae (Shearer) Moonis. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clifford Bortz, and her son, Keith Bortz. Helen is survived by her loving family, son Kevin Bortz and his wife, Beckie, of Delmont; grandchildren, Shawn, Shane, Delaney and Ian Bortz; great-granddaughters, Brianna and Brielle Bortz; and a sister, Evelyn Grubich (John), of Delmont. She was also the beloved auntie of Gary Grubich (Nancy) and Lori Harr (Doug), and their children and grandchildren. For years, Helen helped her father run Moonis Market in Delmont. She also worked as a pharmacy assistant at Rite Aid. She was a devoted member of Salem Lutheran Church and volunteered countless hours at the Delmont Salvation Army. She enjoyed cooking for various causes, providing food for activities at the church and making pies and soup for the Salvation Army at the Delmont Apple Festival. She also loved her regular card games and lunch outings with her friends.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church with Pastor Kara Propst presiding. By request, everyone is to meet at the church. Interment services will follow at Eastview Union Cemetery, Delmont.
