William "Marshall" Hoffman, 76, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, in Greensburg, Hempfield Township, with his loving family at his side. Marshall's family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Excela Health Hospice nurses and staff for their compassionate care. He was born July 10, 1938, in Greensburg, son of the late William Vinton and Eleanor McIlvaine Hoffman. In addition to his parents, Marshall was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hoffman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Sharon Elliott Hoffman; loving children, Douglas Hoffman and his wife, Kathy, of Greensburg, Marsha Sebastian and her husband, Andrew, of Murrysville, Janet Hoffman, of Point Breeze, Russell R. Whetzel and his wife, Tracy, of New Jersey, and Deborah L. Whetzel Neal and her husband, Daniel, of New York; grandchildren, Bret Hoffman (Michelle), Sean Hoffman, Audra Hoffman Trapletti (Jason), Laura Hoffman (fiance, Anthony Trapletti), Marc Hoffman, Ashley Brandolph (Adam), Erin Palchak, Wolfgang Neal, Levi Neal, Abigail Whetzel and Benjamin Whetzel; great-grandchildren, Abigail Hoffman, Derek Gerstner, Avria Trapletti and Aubrey Trapletti; and faithful companions, Star, Sage and Bella. Marshall was employed by Agway Inc. for 32 years and the owner and operator of Delmont Agway for 20 years until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of First Lutheran Evangelical Church in Greensburg and formerly Salem Lutheran Church in Delmont. He was also a lifetime member of Elk Federation, NRA and Police Rod and Gun Club of New Alexandria. He graduated with the first graduation class of 1957 from Hempfield High School. Marshall enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, biking, hiking, horseback riding and cooking. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Jerry Nuernberger presiding.
