Thomas M Orr

Thomas Maxwell Orr, 93, of Greensburg and Salem Township died peacefully Friday, March 13, 2015, at Excela Latrobe Hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Homewood. He was raised in East McKeesport, by his parents, James Albert Orr and Dorothy Maxwell Orr. Tom's life work was ORRCO, the precision machine products company that he founded in 1946 in East McKeesport. In 1951, he moved the company to its present location in Salem Township. Tom started his career as a machinist with Westinghouse Electric. He then enlisted in the Seabees and served in New Guinea, the Admiralty Islands and the Philippines. After the war he ran ORRCO until 1979, when he bought a sailboat. He spent the next 15 years of his life sailing Night Cloud across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe and other destinations. He sailed extensively through the Caribbean, South America and the East Coast. Tom was a master woodworker who spent his retirement creating heirlooms for his family and friends. He served as a school board director for Greensburg Salem. He was a member and elder at Congruity Presbyterian Church. Tom was preceded in death by his father, James Orr; and mother, Dorothy Orr; wife, Helen Wolff Orr; daughter, Nancy Helen Orr; and brother, James Orr. Tom is survived by daughter, Christine Orr (Terry Watson), of Cleveland, Ohio; son, Thomas Orr (Rosemary), of Greensburg; son, Keith Orr (RoseAnn), of Greensburg; grandchildren, Jason, Kelly McCambridge (Matthew), Erin, Chelsea, Sara and Kathleen; and son-in-law, Ernie Hawkins. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, and also 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Congruity Presbyterian Church in New Alexandria, Salem Township, with services commencing at 11 a.m., with the Rev. H. Clifton Foster presiding. Interment services will follow at the Congruity Cemetery, with full military honors presented by VFW Post 33 of Greensburg.
