Roy E. Bortz, Sr.

Roy E. Bortz Sr., 89, formerly of New Alexandria, died Sunday, April 9, 2017. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Tewes) Bortz; father of Roy Bortz Jr. (Lori), of Greensburg; and grandfather of Christa Whitney (Jeff), Bradley Bortz (Rebecca), Brett, Jaclyn (fiance Steve Pennington) and Kristen (Brad Hess). He also had seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Roy was a member of the Disabled Veterans of Westmoreland County 35th Chapter, an Air Force veteran, a member of the VFW Post 7901 Avonmore, and just this past February, Roy celebrated his 50-year membership with the American Legion Slickville. A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, PA 15626 (724-468-8381), where a funeral service will take place at 6 p.m. with Pastor Tom Jones officiating.
