Ronald D. Martz, 69, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, while doing what he loved most only second to his wife, hunting elk in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Ron planned this trip of a lifetime for a long time with his son and grandson. He was born Nov. 13, 1947, in Greensburg, a son of the late Doyle and Myrtle Martz. Ron was a graduate of Greensburg Salem High School, class of 1966. Prior to his "retirement", Ron was a member of the Local 66 Operating Engineers for 50 years, owner of Martz Bros. Construction, Salem Township supervisor and roadmaster. He was a member of Congruity Presbyterian Church in New Alexandria, where he served as an elder. Ron was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF), Slickville Lions and New Salem Rod and Gun Club. He had many hobbies, but especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors and spending time with his beloved family. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Copper Martz; three children, Michelle, and husband, James Kepple, of New Alexandria, Kenneth, and wife, Melissa Martz, of Greensburg, and Rebecca, and husband, Larry Swatchick, of New Alexandria; seven grandchildren, Kristie, and husband, Jim Roemer, Stacey, and husband, Alex Burns, Mike Kepple, Alyssa and Trevor Martz and Alex and Sydney Swatchick; four great-grandchildren, Tyler and Andrew Roemer, Sadie Fink and soon to arrive Madeline Burns; siblings, Larry Martz, and wife, Sarah, of Greensburg, Judy Stokes, and husband, Ed, of Delmont, Eddy Martz, and wife, Janet, of Uvalde, Texas, Walter Martz, and wife, Kim, of Avonmore, and Rankin Martz, and wife, Nancy, of Uniontown; and many nieces and nephews. Ron will be greatly missed by his many neighbors, friends and, most of all, his loving family.  Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, PA 15626. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Congruity Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Congruity Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Congruity Presbyterian Church, c/o 136 Fenneltown Road; New Alexandria, PA 15670, in Ron's name.
