Robert S. Borland, 85, of Export, passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville. The Borland family would like to thank Dr. Castanon and the team of trauma surgeons and nurses at Forbes Regional Hospital for their clinical expertise, compassion and kindness. He was born April 16, 1932, in Export, son of the late David W. and Lulu M. (Stimmell) Borland. One of seven children, he was also preceded in death by a brother, John B. Borland. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Erna Marie (Miller) Borland; daughters, Wendy B. Zimmerman and her husband, James, of Export, Amy B. Ostrawski and her husband, Albert, of Export, and son, Robert K. Borland and his wife, Linda, of Jeannette; grandchildren, Amanda Webster (Matt), David J. Zimmerman, Lydia Borland, and Kevin and Keith Borland; sisters, Helen Geiger and her husband, Edward, of Export, and Alethea Dunn and her husband, Thomas, of Delmont, and brothers, David C. Borland and his wife, Ann, of Pittsburgh, Thomas W. Borland, of Export, and James L. Borland, of Export; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob retired in 1994 from Westinghouse SMD, Blairsville, after 40 years of service as an electrician. He also served in the Army as a tank mechanic. Bob enjoyed working on the family farm, hunting throughout the year's seasons, serving as a "Mr. Fix-it" and building puzzles.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, with funeral services commencing at 11 a.m., at BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381, with the Rev. Mark A. Werner, S.T.M., presiding. Interment services will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, with full military honors provided by American Legion Post 981 of Greensburg.
